Lounge listener, John Dubuque, is challenging host’s David and Brian to get there hands on a AERO VR Headset.
Dubuque stated, “I think the race is on (no pun intended) between @Brian Maccubbin and @David K Hall (there are 15+ David Halls on iRacing but only one David K Hall!) to see who will be the first host of the iRacersLounge podcast to adopt the best-in-class Aero. I suspect both will eventually get there – the first will likely be so pleased w/the Aero that it will become that much harder to resist making that wise investment.
Mike- p. The green stayed out until lap 50 for the first caution got the lucky dog. Stayed out of trouble pretty much around 13th and 15th most of the race pitted for the last time with 50 to go. They just keep wreckin and I kept moving up by the first green white checker. I was P4 by the first green white checker, I was the leader for the second green white checker second place got next to me on the white on the back I tried to cross over I barely touched him and he went around and I won the race. I didn’t want to win it that way and I told him that looking at the replay it was pretty much net code if anything he didn’t complain so I celebrated the win. My 91st career
Donnie – Q10/ P Wrecked
Sunday Fixed
Mike – p used the beta UI to launch, and it would not try it a few times ended up, rebooting and getting in right before grid. However, my main speakers were not working and there was no time to fix. I can hear the engine sound barely out of the subwoofer, so I’m OK for this race but how frustrating experience it is Top split road around the back ended up bringing out the third caution on my own spitting off down on the inside no damage. Ran about 15 the 10th most of the race with two to go. They had a big wreck and I couldn’t miss it. I got the beat Ball ended up losing a lap P 19. Upfront on the white flag third place pulled the Ross Chastain move and rode the wall and ended up passing two spots to get the win in the final corners.
Wednesday Open: dover
Mike – p 15. Ran around 10 most of the race got involved in an incident with a lapcars fun had no damage was sitting there parked for a few seconds before somebody plowed in several seconds after the yellow was out I ended up two laps down P 15.
Ellis – p 4 ran top 10 most of the race the back half of the top 10 as we ran a long green flag run. At the end we were going to have to do a splash and go. I waited, insure enough somebody spun getting on the pit Road the caution came out, bunched us up and I finished
Official Series
DAYTONA ROAR
Tony Rochette – Wrecked out early.
Mike Ellis – I ran about for the sixth most of the race that 50 for a faster car ran over me coming out of the bath stop and dumped me head on into the wall 44 minutes damage. It’s so frustrating to get run over from behind when you can’t do anything to avoid it, I let the guy know how happy I was.
Donnie – GT4 Only Split, P13 out of 48 Cars.
Ellis– F 2000 at Phoenix qualified eight out of 14. At one point fifth sixth and seventh collected each other on the back stretch then second and third collected each other and then I brought it home from there P3.
Indy pro 2000 @Rudskogen. Started fifth and finished P3. Add pressure at the end from fourth but was able to keep my cool he eventually spun off.
F 2000 at rodSkogan. Started P2 finished P2. Got the lead on lap one, but foolishly spun on my own, and fell back to fit then drove my way back up to second was catching the leader, but ran out of laps

Indy Car iRacing Re-Hash
It’s been a little over a week, and the iRacing community is taking charge.
Do we have any lawyers here in the mix of iracing drivers? This almost sounds like grounds for a class action lawsuit against Indycar by the iracers of the world.
IndyCar’s abandonment of an established entryway comes at an inopportune time, as the series has finally seen a long-needed influx of young new fans in 2022. Forbes reports that the first three televised IndyCar races of the season brought in the series’ highest viewership in 19 years and that its streaming audience had an average age in the 30s. That stands in stark contrast with the majority of IndyCar fans, which Racer reports are much older: 68.3% of IndyCar’s TV audience is 55 or older. A whole 43.6% are 65-plus, which puts the series at risk of losing most of its fanbase over the next few decades.
So I can’t even say I was born and raised in Indy on my iracing profile? That seems a bit far to ban a very standard abbreviation of a city, let alone ban Indy500 (if split apart) and Indycar directly.
So it’s now against the rules for me to say in my profile that I joined Iracing due to being a big Indycar fan from Indy, who’s attended 30 Indy 500s.

Is Active Reset a Good or Bad Thing?
Fellow iRacer, Damon Black posted in the forums and stating that, Active Reset could be Considered Harmful.
“I’m sure it will be a minority opinion, but I think active reset diminishes the iRacing experience. It’s moving test (solo practice) sessions away from a sim driving experience and toward monotonous game-grinding. I also suspect it will produce drivers who can nail qualifying laps, but are a disaster when they have to drive off their ideal line.”

Lots of Sim Racing journalists have had time to try and give thoughts on the new Simucube Active Pedal System
Dan Suzuki on the Active Pedal
an Suzuki — 12/01/2022 2:21 PM
Tried these pedals today and wow, this definitely is something very unique that I have never tried before. I personally think it’s amazing to see a company doing something completely new. Of course it is expensive and I’m sure the people at Simucube would be more than happy if they could produce and sell them at a lower price – there is so much tech in these – you basically get a simucube per pedal and then a lot of stuff around it. They feel amazing to drive with. I need to come back in the next days and do some more testing, I wonder how they feel on a car without ABS – can you feel the lockups if you disable ABS on the cars? Anyways, just wanted to share my quick first impressions, I love it when something completely new and unseen is coming out. If it wasn’t for these “jumps” in technology we would all still be driving with our Logitech G25. I wonder what some people in here do when they find out what sports cars can cost ….
Dan Suzuki — 12/01/2022 2:29 PM
you can feel the car loosing traction. i thought it was a bit exagerated in the profile they used on the rig i was testing, but then again its super customizable
Marko from Simcube on Active Pedal Pricing on their Discord Server
Marko | Simucube — 12/01/2022 6:53 AM
Dear everyone,
Thank you sincerely for your comments. I carefully read through almost all of them. We honestly take all the opinions you shared to heart. The price for the ActivePedals was very carefully considered and hotly debated in-house before the launch. When we started developing the pedals, we knew the price point would not be very affordable, but based on the feedback on our other product releases, we knew that a set of basic pedals would be a letdown to the community.. so we opted to produce the best pedals in existence. As many of you guessed, the cost for R&D was substantial, but this was not the main reason for the price we are asking for. The main reason for the cost is that the components used in the pedals are the best available. Really, everything is top notch. So yes, the ActivePedals cost a substantial amount, but they are designed to last at least twenty years. These will not break, will not loose responsiveness or feel old after five years.
A SC2 plus a quality steering wheel cost more and we feel that for improving your lap times the pedals are even more crucial. This is the pedal for driving on the edge. This is the pedal we poured everything we got into.. and we will support and improve the features of the ActivePedals for years to come. If anyone knows us, they know this to be true.. it’s the same as with True Drive, the development has just started.
We understand the price was a shock for many, but this was the price this exceptional piece of gear can be sold currently. We truly appreciate the feedback from everyone.
-Marko, Simucube
Beano iRacing from Active Pedal Discord Channel his conversation with David Tucker of iRacing
Beano iRacing 🇦🇺 — Yesterday at 1:50 PM
Coming back to a discussion over at iRacing, where David Tucker, the main FFB Developer, had this to say yesterday – I waited with posting due to asking his consent to post this – apologies for it being in a few parts, it was a bit long for Discord to go in one post – anyway really excited for some of these concepts to make it into sims, now that the technology to benefit from these are there:
Quote @David Tucker:
This is all pure speculation at this point, so it is difficult to answer your questions. Naturally we want to support the latest hardware, but we also want to spread our engineering efforts out fairly. This is just the first pass at a brand new idea, hopefully the second and third passes will help solidify what is and is not important in the design and we will see this become more commonplace.
As for potential benefits, that is really up in the air right now. We know that pedals are a weak spot (as are shifters) in the sim world. Everyone that gets there first rig wants to get a clutch pedal and h-pattern shifter and is very disappointed when they find out it feels nothing like driving a stick shift car. Some of that is because race cars are nothing like your daily driver, but a lot falls on the pedals (and shifter) not really giving enough feedback.
In my opinion these are some of the potential benefits of these pedals.
Part 2: Can be adjusted to match the throw and pressure profile of every car so it feels more like the real thing. This is a big plus for immersion.
Can accurately match the feel of a clutch pedal. This is something existing pedals could have done, but most do not. Hopefully with a bit of feedback from the sim you could feel the clutch plate chatter and get more out of it.
Can reproduce chatter from the brake system such as the pulsing of the ABS. Ultimately this requires better modeling on our part to try and perfectly match the behavior of the real thing. We probably don’t have the info to really nail this, but we can get close enough. And even with minimal sim support we can probably make this feel nice.
Can reproduce brake fade, a worn clutch, or ruptured brake lines and a whole host of other failures. Imagine having your brake pedal suddenly drop to the floor, it would be amazingly scary.
Can simulate the feel of brake assist. It is a subtle thing you don’t usually notice but your brake assist in your passenger car does not work in lock step with your foot. It tends to have a bit of delay and ramps up the assist over time so you get a feeling of the pedal moving on its own. Try pushing slowly on the brake pedal next time your parked and you will be able to feel this.
Can simulate g-force acting on your legs to soften up the brakes as deceleration increases. This is intriguing to me, as I mentioned above a lot of pro drivers say a static pedal set can’t ever feel like the real thing. Potentially this could get around it.
Can provide LFE style vibrations at your feet that change from pedal to pedal. This is especially useful on cars like the skippy that rely on mechanical linkages that couple directly to the transmission. You should be able to feel the engine and transmission buck when adjusting the throttle and more direct vibration at the pedals as well.
Part 3:
That is a lot of potential, but it is also a lot of work to really be able to fully take advantage of it all. We may need to extend our models. For example our clutch plate can’t really chatter, our brake rotors can’t warp, and so on. But if we have a way to give you those details then there is incentive on our end to model more of them.

iRacing dropped some spoilers for content for the 2023 Week 1 build…
Do We Need to Update All Our Paints
For the 2023 Season 1 build iRacing is adding a new shader to the sim that will allow you to add a clear coat to your car for custom schemes!
This new shader will allow you to put a clear shell over the existing paint scheme of the car with it’s own specular qualities separate from the underlying material. This is meant to replicate automotive paintjobs where the underlying car paint is overlaid with an acrylic clear coat.
That is correct. If you don’t have a custom spec map you don’t have to edit anything. If you do and want to keep your current look. Make the blue channel on your custom spec map pure black (0, 0, 0 RGB).
Trading Paints Paint of the Year
Trading Paints is now taking votes for round one of the Paint of the Year contest. Also, on the other side of the spectrum, Nascarcasm will be taking submissions for the ugliest paint scheme.
iRacing posted the dates of the early 2023 special events so participants can start to plan their races early. The full special event calendar will be released at a later date

No Refunds for the RTX 4080
It’s no secret that the RTX 4080 has not been selling particularly well, primarily due to its $1,200 price tag, which most people feel is far too expensive. The situation has even impacted scalpers, with many now having to resell their cards at MSRP or even less in some cases. A few second-hand sellers have tried returning them, which seems to have prompted certain retailers to stop offering refunds for the RTX 4080.
Scalpers are struggling to sell the RTX 4080 above MSRP, but retailers won’t let them return the cards
Varjo has on their website a great explanation of how their dynamic foveated system works in XR and how your eyes interpret what is being displayed in VR
A great explanation how our eyes work and what they can actually see in VR and how OpenXR helps with the performance of VR.
Human eyes have a unique design with two kinds of photosensors, the rod and the cones. Cones are very accurate and detect fine details. Rods are much more sensitive to light than cones, but blurrier. Cones and Rods are distributed very non-uniformly. Cones are concentrated within a few degrees of field of view around the gaze. There are no rods in the center of the FOV, but they are covering most of the eye field of view. There is even a blind spot where the nerve is attached, an entire area of the eye that has no photosensors at all.

Elvis Rankin Converts Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series Results Into Real-World Title Shot
Earlier this year, Indianapolis-based teenager Elvis Rankin impressed sim racing and real-world racing pros alike with a stellar performance in the inaugural Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series. His runner-up finish in that championship gave him the opportunity to compete in this year’s Skip Barber Formula Race Series in the real world, with a half-season scholarship to help him showcase his skills.
Flash forward to this week’s season finale at Circuit of the Americas, and Rankin has done much more than just show up for half the races. It took him just two rounds at his debut event at Lime Rock Park to find the top step of the podium for the first time, and after formalizing a full-season campaign, he enters Rounds 13 and 14 with a 13-point championship advantage.
Skip Barber formula series’ last race week was Nov 29th and 30th. I do not know his finishing positions (he’s too cool to respond to old mx5 racing buddies) but the season is over and he is champion. I do not think he had much competition in this year’s group of drivers. This report was written right before the last weekend at cota….Circuit of the Americas. In other news, he did have a somewhat good showing in a F4 test in Europe amongst a group of new drivers.

iRacing Setup Differ – Message from Developer
Hi Steve what a nice surprise you mentioned the iRacing SetupDiffer software on your show. with the busy season around thanksgiving, i am a few shows behind in listening to the podcast. I just listed to the November 10th show today.
I created the iRacing SetupDiffer because at the time, all the setup comparison tools required you to export the setups to an HTML file and compare the “files” themselves. that has a number of problems, the main one being the comparison program has to be updated to work with each new car, and occasionally, with season updates, or changes that iRacing makes to an existing car. with the iRacing SetupDiffer,
I wanted to create a tool that was simple and straightforward, and worked with any car, and any seasonal update, without forcing users to constantly download new versions of the software. from the user feedback I’ve received, this has been a success. one of the most often mentioned features is the ability to compare the existing setup in iRacing (extracted live), with a version used in a previous race or practice session (extracted from the telemetry files). Also, not that it makes any real sense to do so, but it can also be fun to compare setups from completely different types of cars, just to learn what is different between them. anyway, thanks for mentioning the software. it was an unexpected surprise. see you on the track
Staffer David Tucker talked about the telemetry that might be available for the SimCube Active Pedals in the iRacing Forum. Also December 1st the pricing and availability dates are supposed to be announced at the Racing Expo!

REVIEW – Venym Atrax & Black Widow Sim Racing Pedals
Driving experience is good, but there are concerns about reliability… The feel like a 1st generation product… Build issues, sharp edges…
QR2 – this is a fundamental change to the ecosystem and our opportunity to make major improvements to the quick release. While we (and BMW) are satisfied with our QR design currently being used on the M4 GT3 race car, it has been a challenge to bring this design to mass production for our full range of steering wheels and wheel bases (including a ‘Lite’ version for our CSL Series). The extended development time has ensured the best possible future for the Fanatec quick release. The latest pre-production samples are performing great, but we will only provide release dates and pricing information when we are ready.
Wheel Base production – many of you have noticed we have been ‘sold out’ of some of our wheel bases for some time. The demand has been very high, and our production has been stalled by component shortages. We will continue to work hard to address this bottleneck, but the effect of the semiconductor crisis continues to be felt across the industry, and I can confirm that the CSL DD will not be available again until Q1 2023.
Podium Steering Wheel Bentley GT3 – the development of this wheel has also been affected by the chip shortage. Although this product was already used very effectively in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and its mechanical and structural design is well-proven, we were unsatisfied with the performance of the display, and we have used the extra time to completely re-engineer the electronics. We now plan to launch the wheel in the first half of 2023.
Now for the best news of the day. Despite the supply delays, we were recently able to secure all components for the Podium Racing Wheel F1, and run the production line at full capacity. Because we know it will be difficult to get your hands on our entry-level bases until next year, we decided to offer the Podium Racing Wheel F1 at a reduced price for a limited time. (We would like to offer this price until the CSL DD returns, but we expect a high demand, so let’s say ‘while stocks last’.)

Racer.com recapped the Coke Series Championship event held at the Nascar Hall of Fame
“It was really cool,” Kirwan said of Earnhardt Jr. presenting the trophy. “It was also awesome before the race even started Dale came up to all of us and chatted for a bit. He came up to me and talked about the stream and everything like that. It was cool for him to be there and come support it.
“Of course the trophy is really nice, he did a really good job on it. To have his name on it is cool and even after he stuck around, and we chatted with him. He took me and Rajah Caruth up on Glory Road and checked out one of his dad’s old cars, one of Richard Petty’s old cars. He even got me to hop into one of Petty’s old cars at one point which was cool. It was just cool to hang out and talk sim-racing and the event and everything.”
In addition to the trophy, Kirwan will also take home the $100,000 prize. He has no plans for the money just yet, but he did say his spotter, crew chief, and others who supported him will be getting a cut of the winnings.
One particular storyline from the event was the revelation of Zalenski’s severe scoliosis, a condition that he’s dealt with his whole life, never before something he’s felt the need to bring up as he’s competed for the title five times in the last six years.
“Something I never talked about was my condition because it’s never been relevant,” Zalenski said. “I was born with very severe scoliosis, so I had surgery about 10 years ago. It was like 200-degree curves in the spine, if I didn’t get surgery, I wouldn’t be able to be here racing for sure.
“My lungs will be squished because it just gets worse. I had surgery and the best I could do is two 50-degree angles. Some of the spine is metal nails and screws. I’m all patched up. With all that considered, it’s crazy that I’m doing this. I always wanted to be a NASCAR driver. It just wasn’t in the cards for me.”
Zalenski said it was only the second time that he’s ever flown on an airplane, opting not to travel to eNASCAR Media Day back in 2020 due to the condition. While it wasn’t the rig he was used to racing in, it was good enough to show the most speed in the first half of the title race and ultimately finish second.

Simucube posted a video talking about their new Active pedal
I see this as a multi stage process.
Let the user define a static profile for there pedals that lets them tweak the feel and throw of each pedal without messing around with springs, dampers, and stops.
The pedal software grabs what car the player is driving from telemetry and let the player map a predefined profile to each car so the pedals change from car to car.
Let the pedal software run canned effects based on limited telemetry from the games.
Allow game developers to directly set there own profiles based on real life information from the car. The player should always be able to override this with there own profile if they so choose.
Allow game developers to send high frequency effects to the pedals that play on top of the static profile. This would mirror part or all of the LFE/TrueForce effects so you can feel the engine vibrate and so on. This is a step above 3 in that it can be tweaked by each developer to better match the game or to use internal data not available to telemetry.
Allow game developers to dynamically change the profile as time progresses. This is where we could add in brake fade by slowly moving points around on the profile.
Go all in and allow the game developer full control over the pedal so they actively control the feedback loop.
Everything up through stage 3 is probably already implemented and mostly rests on Simcubes shoulders to implement for all games.
Stage 4 is not technically hard but it is a lot of bookkeeping to implement on the game developers side. We would need to dig up information about the physical pedals for every car we ever made and in a lot of cases we could not go back and touch the real car again to measure pedal force or throw if we don’t have that information. Going forward of course it is just a matter of coming up with a simple rig to test the pedals out and recording the profile.
Stage 5 is probably not that hard to implement. We have seen wheels moving towards high frequency effects for a while now, like the Logitech TrueForce effect. Once a game supports one of those effects it is relatively easy to redirect part or all of them on to the pedals. Adding it in at first is not trivial at all, but once you have it then it is easy to repurpose.
Stage 6 would allow us to model slow changing events such as brake fade or a loss of brake fluid pressure without having to fully implement a proper feedback loop with the physics like we do with wheels.
Stage 7 is the dream, but that would take significant effort on our end (and all other game developers as well) to implement. We would need to make a new dynamic physics model for the pedals and update it fast enough that we can accurately simulate motion in real time I’m not even sure it is 100% possible.
The big question is will this be popular enough that developers feel it is justified to implement. If the price is right I suspect we could see this really take off, but if the cost is closer to motion platforms than DD wheels we will probably be stuck at stage 3 for quite a while.

NASCAR iRacing Series
Friday Open: Martinsville
Stephen- broken toe line
Kyle – broken toe link
Tom – broken toe link
Mike- p10 – got involved in some wrecks that we’re not my doing including getting completely ass packed well after the Caution came out including getting spun around sideways and stopped for no yellow came out with over five minutes damage in three laps down. I waited for the lucky dogs and they eventually happened and I got to the leadlap. Then I got the dreaded drive-through penalty on the first green white checkered on the second green white checkered. I got the Lucky dog so on the final restart just hold onto it from P 11 one guy got black flag do not put me to the top 10 I’ll take it after a very tough week.
Sunday Open
Steve – P 25th,first 38 laps not one green flag lap. I couldn’t take it any more.
Wednesday Open: Phoenix
Hall – p1, Started mid pack, was slowly creeping up into top 10, then horribly missed my pit to go all the way back, worked by way back up eventually to 3rd. On a restart leader spun tires, which cause a weird chain reaction that resulting in me not getting told by my spotter coming back on the track from the dog leg that it was three wide, plus net code and I get knocked down low, but gather it up in around 25th. Then there is a big wreck right in front of me. I’m creeping through it and still one of them rolls into my left rear. 1 min damage, fixed eventual. I tell my self there still more time than the A open to race. Caution comes with 62 to go and I say this is in my favor. With 10 to go the leader is 3.5 seconds ahead of me. But they fade hard on last 10 laps, I lead the last 5 and take 2rd win of season. 150th overall win

Tom D – pretty much p4 all night, but got shuffled at the end.
Stephen- p wrecked out
Mike-p1- started P 20 quickly made it up to fourth by the end of the first run then a long green flag run. I went to Short pit. The caution came out while on pit Road I was able to come back around and beat the leaders before they got off pit Road and maintain the lead marched on basically ran top three. Most of the night ended up leading the most laps. I really hard to fight for it at the end. One guy stayed within one second the whole way, but it stayed green and I took home the win! That’s my 87th career win. That’s four wins for me this year Bristol dirt, new Atlanta, Charlotte, Roval, and the Phoenix finale
Official Series
League / Hosted Races

Ellis -Hosted. RUF and 87s at tally. Came from the back to the front then got wrecked on the caution came from the back to the front again was leading on the white and got dumped for the win. P4.
GEN five at Talladega started for the back out to the front twice but got wrecked out near the end
GEN five at IRacing superspeedway starting 18. P4
Dw12 at Michigan really fun racing upfront three-way for the lead several labs in a row before we wrecked.
Supercars that Michigan was in the lead pack going into green flag stops came off pit Road leading the race some fool who didn’t pit for gas runs out and decide he’s gonna block. The exit of pit laying onto the backstretch. Well it’s really only one lane why’d I tried to Sweek by, but it didn’t work, and he wrecked all the leaders
87 at Talladega
