iRacer Wins Championship

Max Cookson is an iRacing regular and won the PASS (Pro All Star Series) mods championship. He started in go karts at the age of 4. Then he wrecks in a legends car and quit real racing for a while, He said in an interview, “I raced Karts from the time I was four until I turned 11 or 12, then took a few years off. I got pretty heavy into sim racing, and got to where I was pretty skilled in the iRacing leagues.” In a few years of iRacing he tallied $10,000 in winnings and used it to buys a PASS modified in 2020 and ran a few races. He focused on the PASS series in 2021 and won 6 races, and (even after loosing 100 points for a DQ) wins the championship in his rookie season.

Fri open: T EXAS

Ellis –   p12 – Was going forward first run had a gf stop then a caution. Had to take a wave around. At one point i faded hard had hit the wall a couple of times… at one point there is a wreck i cannot miss… pretty much rode it home from there

  • Sunday Open
    • Kyle – P.  P-8 started on the pole. But quickly fell back when i got loose off of 2 on lap 2. Couldn’t keep the back end of the car straight most of the race. But was able to work my way back up to the front and stay in the top 5. 26 to go and caution comes out. Pit for fresh tires and just over drove it and ended with a P-8.
    • Hall – p 20  had a good car, got taken out by a car who came all the way from the wall to the inside lane on the front stretch.
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p 6 – Went from back to the front multiple times – got wrecked once and was dead last at one point. Kept screwing up on pit road not having tires ready.
  • Race : Kansas
  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p 5,  hope the slide is over
    • Ellis – p wrecked out – screwed myself on a gf stop by not having my tires checked – lost all my track position… Then a wave by with a caution got us back – but then a big wreck i couldnt miss – just driving it home from here – ended up netcode w a lapper and wrecked again
    • Kyle P – P-14 started P14 and fell like a rock fighting a tight car. After a pit stop I adjusted the car and it came to life. Got up to 5th with less then 20 but drove to hard to hang with the top 5 and the front tires just fell off and fell back to 14th.
  • Thurs Open  

Ellis – p.wrecked out – i was usually moving forward, 20th to 7th, the there is a guy we couldnt get by I ended up driving to the outside of him getting in and he couldnt hold it and put us both in the wall. The guy ended up causing every caution 4 actually…The last one I couldnt miss at all and got the engine blown

The HeMy New Cockpit Build Thread – The iRacers Lounge Edition

Well today’s focus would be the pedal system mounting.

I really struggled with getting the old mounts off the stainless steel rod. There’s a little bit of rust and slight imperfections and one side was really really stuck. I ended up putting the stainless rod into the vice put my feet on it and yanked like crazy until it came off.

now to get the new mounts on we’re just as hard. I managed to get three of the four on eventually but the fourth one just won’t go onto the rod. I even took a drill to it to try to open it up a little bit and I was getting close to getting it on but made the fatal mistake of shoving a screwdriver through the screw hole to help twist it and it broke it.

Made a trip to Ace Hardware to see if they have one of course they do not.

so I placed another McMaster order, ugh.

So I got the shifter and mouse pad mounted very easily. Rock solid too.

Now moving on to the integrated triple monitor mount. Right off the bat I’m concerned it’s too close to the wheel to have my cell phone a top it. So I put the uprights on the far two slots.

Then the vario VESA adapters. These come in 1 million pieces and initially was daunting to try to figure out I sorted the pieces in the different piles before I figured out how to do it.

So got the xero play triple pivot adapters installed. Vero vesa adapters are just awesome. It’s a really neat design that allows you to really dial in the alignment of the monitors. Money well spent for sure.

So another day off today as I dig into trying to finish it up. The emergency button I used zip ties and put it below the mouse pad.

Headphone hook is under the keyboard, and power supply on the outside bottom lower left.

Then the pedals. I got the replacement part that I broke yesterday, I didn’t even try to put it on I put it in the vise and drilled it out a bit of course it wasn’t that easy I had to drill it out more than I thought and I went back-and-forth maybe five or six times before I was able to get it on.

Finally the couplers three of the four went on I had to drill out one of them again it took me about 10 different tries before I got it open enough to take that rod.

Then the awesome computer tray from advanced Sim racing.

This worked for me because I didn’t bolt them on the regular uprights I put them on the uprights that I extended above the custom pedal mount I went 2 feet up instead of one on two of the sides…

Then I mounted the Altec Lansing speakers and the Philips hue light strip using zip ties…

Then I went about removing the old cockpit and doing cleanup that hasn’t been done in 7+ years. It was too hard to move so it didn’t.

Then after cleanup I created what I call a network station with my network hub and my Philips Hue Gateway. I then got a metal hook with zip tied three cables for strain relief power network and audio. These coil together and make a snake running to the rig. There’s also a strain relief Velcro hook at the computer… this makes it easy to unplug the entire thing with three plugs coil the snake away and I can roll it around the room easily…

Wiring is complete except for the new power strip I put an old one in there for now.

Next up we’re gonna do a spot check and turn everything on and see how it works before doing cable cleanup.

I took the day off from work tomorrow to finish the project. Most of tomorrow will be fine tuning and adjustments. Cable cleanup. And really figuring out what to do with all the crap that I took out of my office I basically made a huge pile outside and a huge pile in the dining room. Likely that it’ll just be shoved into boxes and put in the garage to deal with later since I’m so tired.

I still need to install the candy dish and figure out a place for my cell phone and a cup holder.

and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get a front mounted to the motor button box sooner rather than later.

So today I worked on getting the alignment right I had to move the heel Plate up much higher and closer to the seat. I didn’t move the entire pedals forward about 4 inches. Then the integrated monitor mount had a slight lean to it. So after considerable effort we got that straightened out. All wiring is in place except for the power strip I’m awaiting delivery of that next. Then cable cleanup.

I also spent a good part of the day with my wife’s assistance cleaning the office out from top to bottom removing a lot of clutter as well they have a much more open space.

I also mounted the chocolate holder.

Then I installed the new power strip and did the cable clean up and did the fine-tuning of the alignment of the monitors.

first road test driving, the gearshift is too far away I could probably live with it but it needs to be 4 inches closer maybe five.

My son came over to help a bit and he took one look at it and said it’s called the “Superman Sim”… The colors on the seat mostly blue with red and a touch of yellow….

So it’s pretty much done I’m going to move the shifter, I got to put the end caps on, but this is it… with lights on. Going racing at some point tonight for sure.

My eyeball is dead center of the monitors top to bottom and left right. I can’t tell you how much of a value it is to pay extra for those special vesa mounts. They made alignment a breeze.

I got the shifter moved. Ran some AI racing first.

And get volume level set nice and loud…

I then ran a Hosted Street stock at Southern national. And then a Hosted Daytona prototype at old Texas oval in the dark. And I won! First win in the new Superman cockpit!

This morning, hammered in the end caps either the rubber mallet. I am glad I bought that tool as it would’ve been really hard to do without it.

Spent about an hour cleaning up the Obutto revolution cockpit.

I did place an order today for the ignition controls button box, which will be the final piece of the puzzle. That will conclude the project and so far so good it’s quite comfortable but will still take some getting used to.

Lessons learned: Went over budget a lot. Lol. I use to be a project manager so I am trained professionally to not do that but, oh well it’s only money. My point of reconcile is when I decided I to not worry about the cost I am finishing the project regardless, I only want to do it once, so buy the best you can get.

Wheels. This simple add-on is my favorite feature. I can unhook the snake and sit and spin it in circles. It is so cool that it is self contained and easily movable.

Seat and Belts. Yeah it’s a bit over the top with a stationary rig, but it works well and I think will actually improve my driving. It also gives it color against the black framing which makes it pop.

Phillips Hue strip. The pics and ambiance speak for itself.

    • Kyle – P. P5. started P14 and just worked my way up to to top 5 in the first 3 laps and then just held strong. Hit head on a couple of times into Turn 1 but didnt hurt it to bad. Fell 2 laps down but was able to race for a lap back on a 2 pit strategy. Came back and finished a strong P5.
    • Hall – p 13 couple of mistakes others made around me dinged the car up, but I don’t think actually cost any positions.
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p 14 – Started P 22 pretty uneventful race I did a two stopper I really chewed up the tires on the first run I got 16 X by the end of the race. But I’ll take it my first official race back with new rig. 
    • Kyle – P P3. Started outside pole. Lap 1 i slid into the back bus stop and hit another car and got spun down out of the groove and sat there for a bit for traffic to go by. Dropped back to P23 and just started working my way towards the front. Had a guy decide he was gonna try to beat me to the front bus stop and ended up basically T-boning me. But continued on and race my way to a P3 on a 1 stop strategy.

    • Hall –p7  Stole a few spots in a GWC 

Ellis – p6 – Got wrecked in a caution could not miss it – had a bit of damage and down on horsepower but not too bad -did 2 GF stops and cautions come out after both – really set me back both times, both times did a wave around, but I will take a p6…

Rochette P4 was good on the long run led 11 laps. Just not enough laps to get to that sweet sweet spot of Turn 1 and 2. 21st top 5 in all of NiS puts be 3rd on the list 5 more and il have 2nd in that spot

  • Thurs Open  

Rochette P10 had issues with spotlights not working so messed with that for the first few pit stops. Ended up making my self a little too tight for the final 30 laps

IMSA Vehicle Class Updates [Hall]

Greg West Posted in the forums that in an effort to better replicate the 2022 IMSA vehicle lineup, beginning with Season 1, 2022 (December build) iRacing will be adjusting the car classes included in both the IMSA and IMSA Endurance series.

The new vehicle lineup will include 2 classes; LMP2 and GT3 (GTD). The included vehicles will be as follows:

My New Cockpit Build Thread – The iRacers Lounge Edition

Next up got from Etsy a cell phone holder.

This by turned out to be a bust because my big a@@ phone with otterbox doesn’t fit in it. Well it does but you kind of have to push it down in there nice and firm.

So, it’s been relegated to my candy dish. I had a concept for bolting a horizontal ring that a steel bowl could sit in where I would store my Hershey chocolates and sweet tarts. A necessary need for any oval race. I never did find the ring I was hoping for so this will suffice I can put the individual Hershey chocolates in there, maybe six at a time.

i’ll probably figure out something different for the phone I’ve been eyeballing this but it’s so darn expensive.

So far I’ve spent about 100 at Home Depot in two trips. Had to place another order for McMaster Carr to get smaller t nuts for the pedal mount hardware.

Most of the rig arrives Monday or Tuesday I believe I’m getting all the other stuff first…

I’m realizing that it’s going to take me a long time to finish this rig… 

Especially the way I want to get it done with the wiring right. I’m gonna have downtime for sure. 

The power strip I ordered the run the whole thing doesn’t even arrive until the 14th…

My goal is it will be self contained on wheels, all cabling is on the rig and the only thing attached to the outside world is an ethernet cable a power cable and an audio cable (to a sub)…

The other thing is where do I put the new power strip. It’s got to be centrally located I intend to run my USB cables to the two phones and headphones. And those are fairly short cables. I’m kind of thinking to the underside of the computer tray somehow.

Also have my hue light strip to power. The hue hub I can plug in elsewhere I think. I’m also trying to figure out how I’m going to implement the Philips hue strip. In other words where am I going to mount it. My initial thought is behind the three monitors shining down somehow.

I have No Idea at all what I’m doing for sound yet. Guess I need to figure it out. Trying to make do with speakers I have (they’re decent left and right computer speakers but no real way to mount them…) but don’t know where to put or mount them. I don’t think they are mountable. Might be zip tie city behind the monitors is my first reaction…

And another arrival… if there’s any one thing that I’m overdoing this is probably it yeah oh my these things are huge. I was concerned that the top of the belt goes from 3 inch to 2 inch I was thinking oh that’s gonna be too narrow but heck no these things are huge…

Mounting these is still an unknown… I saw somewhere where people were taking the lap and the crotch belt and attaching them together under the seat to each other with no other anchor. So I could do that. They all attached to a ring under the seat and pull on each other. But the shoulder belts because the seat is moving I think they have to attach to the seat somehow it might be weird if they’re attached to the frame and I’m sliding the seat forward and backwards getting in and out…?

OK I got put together the advanced Sim racing computer tray. Very nice. I must say, the lack of offerings on this particular item I was a bit surprised about this was the only one I could find that would fit my tower and it barely fits.

This is something I’m really going to like because my computer currently sits on a piece of particle board spanned across a couple stacks of ammo boxes… #OutOfTheGhetto

I got another piece of the puzzle today, these are the brackets to hold the power supply for the wheel. It’s going to be either mounted under the seat or under the pedals likely against the frame.

I had to place a second order to McMaster Carr for some M6 T nut packages as I had only ordered M8s. I have two extra which will be perfect for the shifter Install.

So now I was able to install these metal round coupler things that the pedals will hang off of.

i’ve only hand tightened it as I’m sure they’ll need to be adjusted once I put the pedals on them.

Well the rig finally arrived and the official build begins!

Wheels on the front a bit funky but functional I got them diagonal with two bolts in the same slot but it’s still rocksolid and the weight distributed directly above the wheel spoke.

I just love the idea that everything is up off the ground and all cabling self-contained.

Well after work today I said in again this time to complete the back half and get the seat done.

The seat slider first even though I watched the Videos I still installed it upside down.

After several times of taking it apart and putting it together I finally figured it out. Then I figured it has to be done in a certain order, put the seat brackets on first then the slider onto the frame then the seat onto the bracket.

And now the seatbelts. Initially I just gathered all the ends underneath the seat and zip tied them. After many experiments I ended up with the lap belts tied separately together with a gap because they were too short. Than the crotch and shoulder belts were zip tied together. Got everything to the right length and it’s nice and snug it stays tight even when the seat slides.

I love the belts are way more comfortable than I thought they would be. The black and yellow things on the shoulders are quick release and quick tighten…

Well I pushed forward with the wheel install. Of course I install the brackets on backwards but it kind a looks like a fanatec tie fighter…

I got it straightened out and installed and mission accomplished there’s no play in the seat or the wheel.

With the seat all the way back the wheel is in the perfect position so I’m not sure the seat slider helps me, or would not be used unless I slide everything forward. Ugh.

My plan for the computer tray isn’t going to work as the wheel is in the way. So I will have to modify that as we go. Going to get some sleep and start on the pedals tomorrow.

Just listening to your latest podcast and I got an idea ?

I think it would be good for you guys to have a Discord for the community where discussions can be had in regards to topics from the podcast.

For example, I am literally frothing at the mouth with the Mercedes W12 news. I have a few immediate questions.
-As you guys discussed, yes the mandatory tyre change of compound during a race should be implemented.

-Also, hopefully we will have the correct DRS zones and detection of being within 1sec of the car in front for DRS to be enabled?

-Also, another key thing with Formula 1 is Safety Cars and Virtual Safety Cars! I’m going that iRacing does this whole Formula 1 thing properly and the best they possibly can and give us these safety cars also?
At least make it an option in Leagues if they think it would just turn into a Safety Car fest in officials. One solution could be for officials to not have the safety car come out within say a minimum of 5laps of the previous SC or something like that ??‍♂️.

I think having a Discord community will also provide discussions topics for upcoming episodes etc directly from your listener base and fans.

No Downtime Maintenance – Possible Increase in Response Times – September 28

Staffer Nicholas Bailey Posted in the forums that iRacing is performing some backend maintenance which may result in increased response times when logging in, registering, and navigating on both the web site and iRacing UI. There is no expected downtime with this maintenance and all race sessions will remain online.

MASCAR

Hey Mike

   This is John this is the info for my new league. The name of the new league is call MASCAR. We will be doing a Dirt Series that will be starting on the 8 of November. To join there is a $10 fee. We will be running two different cars. We will rotate cars each week. The two cars are the Pro Late Models and the 358 Modified. We will be running fix setups has well. The dirt series will run on Monday nights practice starts at 8:30pm eat. I am working on getting a broadcast to do all 10 weeks. We will also run the Cup Cars next year when the new season starts. My New Cockpit Build Thread – The iRacers Lounge Edition

I have been around a while and have had the Obutto Revolution cockpit with triple monitor mount, and the MPCC SimPedals inverted, for quite some time now. The triple mount has been bad as the monitors move about if touched. The seat is not quite stable, left side leans back a bit, and the wheel has flex, up and down, not a lot, but I am at the point of I am tired up it, it is time to upgrade.

I thought I would document my journey in this thread, to give people ideas, to see what my thought process is.

As the host of the podcast, iRacers Lounge, we have talked about hardware every week for 6 years, so I feel like I know a lot about what is out there.

First I was seduced by the sleek lines of the iRacing branded Next Level Racing rig. The release of this rig is really what got me going on this project. There was a while, I was dead set on it. But I did my researched, I watched videos, and found the the flex in the wheel area is not much better than what I currently have. I also realized it is overpriced compared to other offerings so I let it go…

Next I looked at Trak Racer 160. Why there, not too sure, teammates have gotten stuff there with success, they are US based, etc… But again, the flex I saw in the wheel on a DD1 mount was more than I want… I was even eyeballing the Advanced Sim Racing rigs with their cool colors, like the royal blue, but same flex as the Trak Racer.s

So, tried and true it is, I have settled on the Sim-Lab’s p1x with integrated quad monitor mount. Advanced Sim Racing computer tray, NRG Blue Alcantara seat, with 6 point red harness. 4th monitor, 27″ flat to match my other 3. Videos I have seen of flex being tested with SimLab’s DD side mount, it is impressive. A significant amount of less flex then the others I have seen… And SimLab’s new magic monitor adjustment thingies, the brand all lines up.

Everything is essentially purchased and en-route and should start arriving this Friday. Still outstanding is how to mount these pedals. My team and I are working a design based on some ideas we got in the forums, basically a rectangle of aluminum extrusion that these cross bars hang off of. I will convert the existing pedal tray into a heal tray basically. There will be a platform above the pedals the computer sits on. Once I figure out the measurements, I have found a local place that can cut and sell me what I need I think to do this part… I understand @Marcus Lindsey has designed this before I have been trying to reach him.

Going to put the whole thing on large casters, with all wiring self contained where you only run a power cord, and a ethernet cable to it. This makes it easier to keep things in the room and the floor clean and tidy.

The chair, well if I am not getting the SimXperience G-Seat, then I will get the best dang seat I can find. The one that caught my eye, and was a reason I had postponed this project for so long, is the one on Max Papis website saying coming soon… Drives me crazy it has been there forever and they just won’t put it up for sale. I finally sat down and emailed the company and point blank said take my money. They indicated it is not for sale and no ETA…

My heart was set on that look, but I have to move on. I did an extensive search but seemed to always end back with NRG seats due to the lower price then other real racing seats. I narrowed it down to two. The white one, is their new ‘SIM’ seat, not sure what makes it sim, but it looks nice. The blue alcantara one, was my gut reaction pick, and I ended up getting the blue alcantara with marbled base chair with a NRG Seat Slider.

Of course with the color I want red belts to hold me down so I don’t flop around like a fish… Again, tons of research and ended up with some of the most expensive ones they got. I like the yellow loops and black pull down straps…

And I got a 4th monitor for above the triples, went with same brand and size, flat, as my current monitors…

That’s it for now, everything has been purchased that can be, I still need parts to build a mount for the pedals, but feeling good about the direction of this build as well as the overall look it will have!

Today’s update, well I did hear from @Marcus Lindsey about his design to mount the pedals, thank you Marcus! And he did let me know he kept it simple for his build it was just 12 inch 40×40 from McMasterCarr basically.

So ordered 4 12″ aluminum extrusions 40×40.

2 24″ long ones – This is what is different the what Marcus did, these will be the uprights for the brake ‘rectangle’ nearest monitors, and the computer table will afix to it above the brakes.

8 endcaps, 4 Shaft Collars, 4 Bearing Housings, some dropin spring loaded ball nut (m8), and m8 bolts. The corner gussets were like 10 each I am like no freaking way, so I ordered those separately from Amazon. Along with some zip ties, and canned air for the computer.

I do believe this completes the purchasing except for wiring, wiring management type stuff if needed. I thought about getting mounted power strips but I am first going to try to use what I have…

I still will want to get a button box but I am not going to think about that until the build is done, so I can determine where and how big…

As for deliveries I got the 5″ caster wheels today via amazon, first item, starting from the ground up as they say… Has 4 wholes and I ask my bud Tony, how did you mount these? He says just 2 fasteners, but use the diagonal holes right on the very corners of the rig. (2 of the 4)…

And so it begins stuff it started to arrive I got the McMaster Carr order the parts for the pedal mount. I cheaper out on the corner brackets and got them on Amazon and the little tabs won’t break off like I’ve seen in the videos ugh.

I was also surprised to get an email from UPS asking for $54 in import fees. I don’t think I was expecting this I never saw anything on the grid engineering say about it… Surprise!

  • Ellis –   p10 – Was minorly involved in an early wreck but very little damage – Had another deal where out of 4 i came up into a guy – man i feel bad about that. – then gf stops – caution came 13 later i cycled to lead – couldnt hold it though and fell back, another gf run later made it back to top 10 – i will take it

Hall – P wrecked, a car starts blinking and the turned up and just puts me in the wall.  5 bad NIS outings in a row now

  • Sunday Open
    • Rochette- P8 Back from a nice vacation in the wilderness, ran wrong steering Ratio and absolutely sucked in turning. Also for giggles ran HDR in VR and that sun over the front stretch almost wrecked a couple of times 
    • Hall – p 20  only caution was lap 1,  late in first run I got myself loose and had to go through the grass to prevent a major accident.  That caused me to the loose the draft, and then long run speed just didn’t seem to be there this time.  At least the wrecked out streak is over.
    • Tom D – p6. Still getting into the swing of things.  One caution after green flag stops.  I’ll take a top 10
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -pwrecked out
    • Tyler – P-idoit. Apparently the engine blows up if you go from 3rd to 2nd. DNF as I gernaded myself while getting the wave around under caution. On to DEGA!
  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p7, recovered after an unlucky restart where another guy that started at the front seemed to want to drop back, caught me out 3 wide and just had to fall to back.  But even with nose damage on the green flag stop, managed to climb back up to 7th with a small pack that worked well together.

Ellis – p1  – We come into this race not really knowing what set we have or don’t have, no practice… Single file goodness the whole way through with literally no racing. The outcome of the race was based on fuel mileage. Tom and I were 1 short going into the final stop, even though Tony had 1 more than us. They blew pit entry so I was great I am on my own. I had a good get away, and got in front of a couple of cars. We pulled out and a pair that pitted prior came blowing by and I slotted into third the rest of the way home. About 4 to go they peeled off, but I was lucky to just catch a lap car and i kept him in front of me so I could continue to save. Still a guy behind me that could make it and he had help from a lapper too, but they never got a good run and the track position paid off, i couldn’t even make the donuts as I ran out on the backstretch. My 77th career win, I win both Tally’s this year, Richmond, and the Southern 500.

  • Kyle P – **P1**  Started out 12th and just slowly worked my way through the field. Rand top 10 all night and once we started getting down to the end. I decided to push a little harder. Final restart was with 2 to go and i was sitting 3rd and knew i had to get the jump on 2nd. Did that and just hung on the back bumper of 1st until 1 to go coming out of Turn 2 i backed off a second and caught a big draft and had 3rd on my bumper and got pushed into 3 with the lead and had to defend out of 4 and won the race by .018 of a second. My first ever NIS win. Feels like I wont the real race.

Colours Pop!

Staffer Tony Gardner announces that they have adjusted the color tone in the sim and, (maybe?) fixed the yellow color tones many have complained about.

For a while now we’ve been too a little too warm in tone, and the sun has overpowered the color mix too significantly, while the blueness of the sky was washed out. We fixed this and the fix went out in today’s patch.

2022 NIS – All Three Tiers

Nick Neben posted in the forums that he thinks it’s time to expand the NIS series to the Xfinity cars and Gander Trucks

Ok, with the NextGen taking over for NIS in 2022 I know there are going to be some people who miss regular stock car racing. This isn’t a dig at the NextGen car, just the style it provides is not fun to some.

With current member number shooting way up, I think it is time to offer NIS – Cup, NIS – Xfinity, and NIS – Truck

Cup would stay the same and run 50% races with the special 100% races

Xfinity would run 100% races with Xfinity schedule (would usually be the same laps as NIS Cup)

Trucks would run 100% races as well from their schedule offering a shorter race of the three but longer than the regular weekly series.

Running Xfinity and Trucks at 100% would offer something different than the regular open series, and we don’t often get full races with these two series. If you tried to shorten them to 50% it would end up the same as the regular series and not offer anything different. I believe most people run NIS for the longer races.

MASCAR is still recruiting for his new league.

Hey Mike
   This is John this is the info for my new league. The name of the new league is call MASCAR. We will be doing a Dirt Series that will be starting on the 8 of November. To join there is a $10 fee. We will be running two different cars. We will rotate cars each week. The two cars are the Pro Late Models and the 358 Modified. We will be running fix setups has well. The dirt series will run on Monday nights practice starts at 8:30pm eat. I am working on getting a broadcast to do all 10 weeks. We will also run the Cup Cars next year when the new season starts. We will follow the nascar schedule. These races will be on Thursday nights and also will have a $10 fee. So please check us out I will put the website down below.   • Ellis –   p8 – started 15th got up as high as 2nd – got involved in a wreck w slight damage – then later running 5th got netcoded hard to the wall – just brought it home after that

Rochette P33 I screwed up in Q and that put me back in that mess and not being aggressive got me caught is crap. Meatballed so called it a night and watched one of the greatest Xfinity race finishes i ever seen

Steve – wrecked out

  • Sunday Open
    • Hall – p wrecked
    • Tom D – p2.  Finally back.  My wheel is back and better than it was.  Had long run speed. Unfortunately a caution came out with 15 to go. Not enough time to get the win. On to Vegas 
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -pwrecked out – netcoded from 3 feet away eventually took me out – this was after getting massively wrecked on lap 2.

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p18, set to loose early, thought it would build tight, but didn’t.  Good car though and very long run after adjustments.  Late caution ferry hurt my track position again, however was up near the front and and got caught up in late wreck.
    • Ellis – pWrecked Out – Had a big save and missed the big one. Later i came washing up and nicked someones nose which sent me down but i saved it then two went to miss me they collected into the wall and i netcoded maybe 5 ft away and got destroyed

  1.  David – p7.  Wrong guess on the caution coin flip, but Don’t think I had the leaders pace, as me and Steven had the same pace, and leader pulled away from Steven who was on the right pit call.  Did finish first among the old tire cars.

Season Wrap Up Stats; a whole new system! [Brian]

Hello fellow stats nerds. You might remember me from the end of season stats that I’ve been posting up into each official series forum section… for like the last 3 years?

As you can expect, doing this was a fair amount of effort and since I’ve been focused on investing my time into developing and supporting my iRacing Reports Discord Bot project, I concluded that doing the end of season stats stuff as I had in the past wasn’t an efficient process.

Over the course of the last season I’ve been working on a whole new system to generate and share end of season stats for official series. You can now access season wrap up stats from 2021 Season 3 all the way back to 2017 Season 1 for all official iRacing series and special events over at this website:ihttps://iracingreports.com/seasons/Statistics and analysis of iRacing drivers and official series results

Use the filters at the top of that page to help you find the series/season you’re interested in.

I can still generate custom outputs for teams/drivers, that include specified people in all the tables and highlight their dots in the charts. This will become a bundled feature for my Discord Bot supporters for 2021 Season 4 onwards.

NASCAR announces 2022 NASCAR Cup Series schedule [Mike]

NASCAR announced the Clash – NASCAR’s prelude event to the Daytona 500 since 1979 – will take place somewhere other than Daytona International Speedway when NASCAR visits the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Feb. 6, 2022.

The NASCAR Cup Series will visit another track for the first time when the green flag flies at World Wide Technology Raceway just outside St. Louis on June 5.

Hey Mike
   This is John this is the info for my new league. The name of the new league is call MASCAR. We will be doing a Dirt Series that will be starting on the 8 of November. To join there is a $10 fee. We will be running two different cars. We will rotate cars each week. The two cars are the Pro Late Models and the 358 Modified. We will be running fix setups has well. The dirt series will run on Monday nights practice starts at 8:30pm eat. I am working on getting a broadcast to do all 10 weeks. We will also run the Cup Cars next year when the new season starts. We will follow the nascar schedule. These races will be on Thursday nights and also will have a $10 fee. So please check us out I will put the website down below. On September 24th my friend and I will be hosting the inaugural Intimdator Challenge. This event will be a week-long process starting with 4 practice sessions taking place between September 18th-21st, we will then have our It’s a Robin Miller Pole Night on the 22nd where we will find out which 24 drivers (33 if we receive 60+ entries) will move onto the main event. The pole-sitter will also receive a $50 prize courtesy of Ambitious Cloud.

The race will take place on September 24th at 8:00 pm. The race will be 76 laps and will be broadcasted live on PitStopTV!

The only cost to enter the event is a donation to the gofundme set up to support Marshall and Shabral Pruett as Shabral continues her ongoing battle with cancer.

NASCAR iRacing Series

Fri open: Richmond

  • Ellis –   DQ’d- w six to go. Kept getting run over from behind for some reason tonight like three different times. I spun off that road and hit the wall and the wheel spun quickly in my hand got a card up in it in it like sprained my thumb. 

Rochette P10 few people in my and Mike’s split had server issues. I had issues got booted under caution made it back down 3 laps. Enough cautions made it back to lead

  • Sunday Open
    • Greg pwrecked 
    • Hall – p wrecked early 26th
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p11 – got involved in several wrecks that were not my doing but soldiered on. Got a drive through for too many incidents but still had a decent run
    • Tyler – P8 – ran my normal, did not qualify and started in the back. Took my time and chipped away at the guys killing tires. Finished with a 8x dodging the disasters but finished strong. Thanks to the team for helping with pit strategy and when to push it. 
    • Brian – P13 ran pretty well all night.  Stayed in the top 10 until the GWC when I was dive bombed and the car pushed me up the track allowing several cars to pass.
  • Race Bristol: 
  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p21.  Absolute wreck fest.  Sloppiest Top Split race since Martinsville.  5 times unable to avoid wreck, and twice it was severe damage.  Climbed to 21st by survival even with the BF at the end on the 5th impact.  Just took the lap penalty and lost no spots.  Iracing’s hamsters had a stroke twice during the race, and the second time the glitch that was happening to everyone took a lap from me.  For as tough as it was, 21st not horrific.
    • Ellis – p26 – was working inside lane and a guy got under me and got turned
    • Kyle P – P9 Started 14th and worked my way to the front. Ran consistent top 10 and then last 28 laps i hammered down and worked my way up to 5ht. Lap car lost it with 2 to go and i got collected was down 400 RPM but got to restart 3rd. I tried to block the low line and keep a top 5 but just didn’t have the power. Only received a 4x the whole race and kept the car straight until that last caution.
    • Greg PWrecked by Server issues
    • Rochette P engine dun gon blown up after some damage in a couple of cautions 
  • Thurs Open  
    • Ellis – p.2 – led the most laps – this one hurt – almost had it won – ran off the tires

Rochette P3 stayed out of trouble ran tires off on last run… i was hoping Mike and the other guy wrecked, i need a win this year

Official Series

D Fixed ARCA Brian P2 Started on the pole. Fell to 4th in the first half trying to save tires and made my way back up to 2nd by the end.

So the last couple of week 13s I hosted a fun no pressure Tour Mods on road course races. This time I wanted to switch it up to a 100 lap race at Dover with Tour Mods on the Saturday of Week 13. Fixed setup no damage but there will be an incident limit. Tire Changes will also be available. There will be iracing controlled cautions.

Intimidator Challenge, Sprint Cars @ Talladega – September 24th

On September 24th my friend and I will be hosting the inaugural Intimdator Challenge. This event will be a week-long process starting with 4 practice sessions taking place between September 18th-21st, we will then have our It’s a Robin Miller Pole Night on the 22nd where we will find out which 24 drivers (33 if we receive 60+ entries) will move onto the main event. The pole-sitter will also receive a $50 prize courtesy of Ambitious Cloud.

The race will take place on September 24th at 8:00 pm. The race will be 76 laps and will be broadcasted live on PitStopTV!

The only cost to enter the event is a donation to the gofundme set up to support Marshall and Shabral Pruett as Shabral continues her ongoing battle with cancer.

Operation Motorsport Benefit 4 Hours of the Glen

A reminder that Operation Motorsport Benefit 4 Hours of The Glen will be held on September 12th with the mission to engage, through motorsport, ill, injured, or wounded service members and disabled Veterans, affected by military service, leading to aiding in their recovery and rehabilitation. Now, twenty years after 9/11/01, we aim to recognize and remember the first responders who laid their lives on the line, and the service members who pushed forward thereafter, and over history.

iRacingReplayCapture

Yvon Cognard posted in the forums that he created an open source command line application allowing the capture of multiple camera angles from a replay where you can record the whole replay or configure specific ranges. It controls OBS and creates a single clip by camera angle, making the video editing synchronization easy. Writing scripts, you can also control the camera live, as it plays, and avoid editing.

Fri open: Darlington

  • Ellis –   p2 – Led some laps and just had nothing for the winner – on the longer run he would gap me for sure – he would have a 10 second lead and I would short pit and wipe it out but eventually he would get by me and drive on – great run to back up my win
  • Greg – PWrecked from lead with 100 to go
  • Hall – P12 top split.  Should have been top 10, but self made mistakes threw it away including missing the pits on green flag stop.  Insane long run speed.
  • Rochette P7 had speed stayed in top 10 through the first green flag stop when cautio. Came out just as i was leaving box putting me a lap down, moss the lucky dog for the next caution decided to take a wave around which did not work in my favor as i somehow ended 3 laps down for what was probably the longest green flag run i ever had in a nis
  • Sunday Open
    • Rochette- P3 definitely had a great car again but lapped cars that wanna race ya and also not understanding what a wave around is kept me behind em 
    • Greg p Back problems

  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p13 tough top split, green flag running except early caution, climbed from p22 start
    • Ellis – p.17 – was loose on the 1st caution and took a guy out. I moved forward and ran top ten pretty much as high as 5th. About 35 to go a guy on the inside came up into me and 5 minutes damage.
    • Kyle P – P4 Started P9 and hung out in the top for most of the race. About halfway through I slid through turn’s 3 & 4 on a restart brought out the caution. Fell back to P-19 and worked my way up to a P4 finish. With Stephen L getting a P3 in the same split.
  • Thurs Open  
    • Ellis – p.4 – Ran back half of top ten basically. At one point I spun off but saved it and worked back up – I was on outside once and they checked the guy behind me hit me, knocked me down into inside car, which wreck him. Turns out to be the same guy i wrecked on Wednesday. Later he came out many laps down and waited until I came around then ran hard side be side with me pushing me up in the corners… I eventually let off to get away from him.

  1.  David – p8  wrecked early, heavily damaged.  Car got the and bounced into me as I was passing
  2. Greg pwrecked out I went to enter the corner and he slowed way up and I got locked to him

Mike – pblown up – was p7 before the caution and caught a lap down – took the wayaround and it put me back in the crap – where someone 3 cars ahead decided to let off the gas just after getting to 4th gear for about 2 seconds which stacked us all up and i got heavy front end damage and blew up shortly after.

Damage Updates for Season 4 2021

With the Season 4 2021 release, members will see notable updates to the manner in which LMP1, LMP2, GTE, GT3, and Supercars are able to repair damage.

The systems updated include both steering and aerodynamic damage. The user experience should now be greatly improved notably in endurance races where steering can be completely repaired so the steering wheel is straight while aerodynamic damage can be repaired as well. The end result is an accident may require a lengthy pitstop but the car will have the opportunity to be competitive after the repairs have taken place.

We are excited to have these updates applied in time for the Bathurst 1000 and Petit Le Mans special events that are the next endurance events on the calendar.

AI Hosted Comes to iRacing!

Multiple iRacers from all over the world can trade paint with AI drivers for the first time as AI Hosted events come to iRacing with the 2021 Season 4 build! Using any of our AI-enabled content, you’ll be able to create race sessions that fill up the field with virtual drivers to compete alongside real iRacers. This functionality works with both regular Hosted sessions and with Leagues.

Here’s how it works:

  • Create an AI Hosted session the same way you would create any other Hosted session. We recommend that the iRacer with the best connection serve as the host. Only AI-enabled tracks will be eligible for AI Hosted sessions.
  • iRacers register for, and join, the AI hosted session. While the AI drivers will only be able to compete in AI-enabled cars, the host may create a session that allows other iRacers to run in cars that aren’t AI-enabled.
  • The AI roster in the session will be linked to the iRacer who creates the AI Hosted session. This roster may be generated on the spot, or selected from rosters that you’ve already built. When the host joins the server, the AI cars join; if the host leaves the server, the AI cars leave. If the host returns, the AI cars return as well.
  • When the host joins the server, the AI roster they bring will fill as many open grid spots as possible. As with real iRacers, these grid spots are not released once they’re claimed by the AI cars, even if the host leaves the session. If the host is bringing a large AI roster, they may still register immediately, but hold off on hitting the button to actually join the session—we recommend that the host join last so that no real users are locked out!
  • If the AI roster is not big enough to fill all remaining open grid spots, new iRacers will still be able to join.

Fri open: Daytona

  • Ellis –   pWreckedOut – it was a frustrating race – i was top ten the whole time, led a lap or so, but could never get anyone to work with me. One restart the guy in front of me checked up big time and let three people from the outside in front of him. Later near the end just trying to get something going on the outside and everyone bails and leaves me hanging out to dry. Eventually they wrecked in front of me and I got collected
  • Hall – P8 contenting again, drafting help abandoned
  • Rochette P20 got hit by some dumbass running 3 wide that couldnt hold a line damaging the engine with 3 to go 
  • Groves  P5  – turn 4 pass for a top 5 
  • Sunday Open
    • Rochette- P4 survived a few wrecks pushed the leader on the back at the white but got checked up when tried to make a run
    • Greg pP16 ran out of fuel pushing @David Hall for the win
    • Hall – p1,  the mostly lucky timing with greg loosing his lap.  I had him stay low so he could latch on to the three car brake away.  Leader got to much of a push from inside, then greg gave me a perfect push and if leader blocked it would have been a wreck.  Good week at Daytona.  Funny how I don’t like the plate racing but do well at it.  FIRST EVER TOP SPLIT WIN

Ran top 5 for a while then took lead – led the most laps too – 165 laps led  – Split last 100 lap run into 50 each on tires – the guy who was keeping with me stayed out a few laps longer. W about 20 to go he was catching me big time with about 10 to go he caught me and went on by, i was getting sloppy and hitting the wall a bunch. At end he was more than 3 seconds ahead. On the white, he crashed on the backstretch and I went on to win the race!

AI for indycar and GTE confirmed?

Will Lyon noticed that at the 30:37 mark of the Sounds of iRacing video it clearly features Indy Cars and at the 10;12 mark shows the GTE cars. They’re all taking the same line as each other and no one’s crashing, so…does this mean they’re AI and are both coming to AI in the next build?

Camera Update

Davis Tucker announced in the forums that next season you will be able to hit ctrl-z any time when out of the car and then use the mouse to move around the world. The mouse changes your orientation, left/right buttons move forward and back, center button + mouse movement makes you strafe, and the scroll wheel changes elevation. They have an existing ctrl-z camera already, but it requires the camera tool be up and it does not use the scroll wheel or center button.

A fun read featuring the legendary Dave Kaemmer!

Dave Kaemmer, CEO of iRacing, sat down for an interview with Cnet Roadshow discussing iRacing, it’s history and future and comparisons with other driving games.

His thoughts on the comparison to other racing titles he said, “Every racing game manufacturer talks about how realistic they are, but from my biased perspective I think that’s all bullshit.” 

Most racing games, Kaemmer mentioned in the article, create a fantasy aesthetic where you, the player, are really, really good at driving — even if you’re not. “The reality is if you get a Ferrari and you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re going to crash it very quickly.” 

Kaemmer isn’t dishing details, but says iRacing’s long-awaited rain model is nearing completion, and that there’s much more to come: “I’ve been in an R&D phase now for a while. I’ve got a pretty big set of changes that I’d like to make that I think will make good improvements.”

Fri open: Michigan

  • Ellis –   p3 – started 17th worked my way up ran top five most of the night – final stop the two leader short pitted and i stayed out a couple of laps, and that was it – after it shook out they were 4 seconds up on me. Great run
  • Hall – P 22, was pushing for top 10 in top split, wreck in front of me, once again no where to go
  • Rochette P11 from the real to virtual irish hills in less time than it took to complete this race. Conservative in the begining. On restarts kept getting checked up when guys dont know how to come out of a corner right. Was good on long run but felt slow. Was just tired
  • Sunday Open
    • Hall – p10, saved a descent run for the week
  • Sunday fixed 
    • Mike -p19 – had a good run going but they stacked up on a restart and like dominoes i got crunched on both front and back – car was slow so just finished off from there.

Brian – P15 no sound!  Started in the back, Avoided wrecks, but not black flags:two laps down.  Had the speed to run with leaders, but couldn’t get laps back.

  • Tyler – P13 had a great run and felt comfortable during the race. Was side swiped avoiding a crash on backstretch but managed to stay clean and pull out a 13. Thank you to Mike for spotting at the end!
  • Race: Daytona
  • Wed Open:
    • Hall –p7,  contending on gwc, outside line lead, Horrific net code, inside line was holding there line
    • Ellis – p.wrecked out – was running p5 all lined up just riding and 2nd place spun 1st and i got wiped out – 4 minutes damage can barely steer – go back out just riding around laps down leaders coming by on the bottom im in the middle i get tagged big wreck – i probably screwed up not leaving enough room – i should have parked it

    • Ellis – p.11 – was running top 5, first stop rights only got the lead – led many laps – The last run we had to save fuel, then later we got racing and i made several tactical errors on which lane to pick when… A good learning race and redemption a bit after last night

  • Fri open: Not Brickyard
  • Ellis –  p17- Not a bad start getting some spots I gotten up the seventh before someone ran over me from behind not once but twice. Soldier Don home on the crappy track. 
  • Greg – PGlitched out

Hall – P16,  Did better than Wed race after undo-ing a change in my throttle cylinder and making a gear change.  Not fast but had guys running around me all clean, so it was actually sort of fun.

Kyle – P-7 Started P-14 and got collected in a net code wreck with little damage. Fell back to 26th and worked my way up to 3rd. Avoided some big wrecks and fought hard. Came down to a GWC and was sitting in P-3. 1 to go and was working on pressuring P-2 when he dropped down and I got his LR and I instantly fell back to P-10 but was able to work back up to a P-7 with a half a lap to go. Did have a fan of the show in the race who reached out to me. Sorry I can’t remember your name but i’m sure you know who you are Sir. and thank you for your support of the show.

Hall –p 29, couldn’t avoid a guy cause they don’t hold the brake, so his spin changes direction right after I’m already committed.

    • Ellis – p. 8 – got caught up in 1st caution and many others had slight damage a bit slow but persevere, w a late caution gained a bunch with people wrecking out.

  1.  David – p2 , early self made wall mistake caused 30 seconds of damage.  Minimized the cost but was probably gonna be just around top 10, ad well timed caution paid off to fix the damage and get track position back.  Restarted 9th, 2nd was best I could get. A stolen 2nd really.
